When I remember how everyday life USED TO BE, I feel like I am about to freak out....The days of three-channel, black & white TV, for starters....(the 60's) CBS was next to perfect, NBC was the fuddy-duddy network, & ABC was the laughingstock. The networks would sign off around 11:00 on a Saturday night. You would first see a film showing the flag while playing the Star-Bangled Banner, and then ... the indian chief testing pattern untill the farm report came on about 5AM. Never will forget the day we GOT CABLE!!! TWELVE whole channels!!! How in the world whould anyone find the time to watch all of that? I was the first remote control my parents ever had- I would just stand by the TV for what seemed to be forever & a day & switch channels for them until they FINALLY made up their minds what they wanted to watch..I would give anything if I were able to do that for them again...
I realize that everyone thinks that the decade they grew up in was the coolest, but I can't see how you could top the 1960's. JFK...The Beatles/British invasion..Motown..the space race..the civil rights movement..hippies....Woodstock..VIETNAM. Transistor radios..Frisbees..That era seems like such a fictional world sometimes. Trying to explain to someone what living in the 60's was is like trying to describe a color you have never seen before. (to me, anyway!) Thank the lord for a site such as RETROLAND. That's it, I'll stop blathering now.....
