happy birthday.
The day I was born into this horrendous world.
On the upside, I share the same birth year as the VHS.
We were meant to be.

ashes to ashes.
This music video put the fear of cellars into me. Not clowns. Cellars. It was in a finished basement where I first watched it and on the other side, where the laundry room was, was not finished. Concrete floor, workshop and the fear that David Bowie and friends would walk around the corner to "get me" whenever I went up and down the stairs. Great song though.

Be careful what you do, because the lies become the truth.
While watching the making of Michael Jackson's Thriller, I was brought back to 1983, sitting on the living room floor watching Michael Jackson perform Billie Jean during the Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever television special. My parents and I were excited. A rare moment shared by us as a family.
They showed this performance during the Thriller documentary. An eerie feeling came over me as I listened to him sing with a pained expression on his face, "Be careful what you do, because the lies become the truth." If only he could have looked into the future?

RAMONA
I still have the original videotape from when my mom recorded Ramona (1988) off of PBS for it's ten episode run. Deserves preservation with a reissue. Excellent series. Don't know why it isn't on DVD yet.

Commander USA's Groovie Movies
"For those who don't remember USA in the Eighties, it certainly wasn't known for being quality television. In fact, it seemed like they bought truckloads of the most f***ed up horror movies at the cheapest prices possible, edited out the swear words and fogged out the boobies, and then aired them in the middle of the day for all the children in the world to watch. In fact, I'm pretty sure Commander USA's lead-in was The Smurfs.
It was glorious television.
Jim Hendricks played Commander USA, a sardonic middle-aged, cigar chomping superhero. In some ways he was a cross between Schneider from One Day at a Time and the Comedian from Watchmen - only cooler. And despite his humor and levity, there was something really sinister about the movies he presented. Even as a kid, I felt like I shouldn't be watching half of the movies he showed, not only because some were legitimately frightening, but because they felt inappropriate. Commander USA movies felt like the movies that were on the top shelf in the horror section at the video store; you know, the ones in the oversized box with warnings all over the cover and a sticker telling you how many countries the movie was banned in." - Christian Dumais (http://wherethelongtailends.com)
I couldn't have written it better myself.

Who's the Boss?
Here goes my memory: Coming home from highschool every day in the early nineties and watching "Who's The Boss?" reruns on ABC (I think it was ABC). I believe they showed two episodes back to back at 4:00.
Favorite episodes: It Happened One Summer / Sams Car
Favorite character: Tony
Favorite line: "You told me to be nice to him!" (Sam, after she kisses Jesse)
Downfalls: Not enough Sam / Sam and Jesse storyline
Jumped The Shark: When Tony went to college
I recently purchased the entire series from someone on ioffer.com and had a wonderful trip down memory lane. I also enjoyed watching the later seasons I ignored during the original airing.
I always watch "Who's The Boss?" when I want to feel like I'm back in the eighties. No other show does it for me. I don't know why.

TWIN PEAKS
I got permission to stay up late that Sunday so I could watch this new show that was premiering. I was so excited. A murder mystery! Twin Peaks was something to look forward to every week. I would do my homework to Twin Peaks. However, my underdeveloped mind could never wrap itself completely around the other mysteries, so I stopped watching after Laura's murder was solved.
I could never afford the VHS sets when they were out, and when I finally could afford them, they were out of print. So when the DVDs came out, it was great to go back and watch the series from the beginning, as an adult.
edit: It's one of my favorite favorites. It's one of the best.

Michael Landon 1936-1991
I grew up watching Little House On The Prairie. I always thought of Michael Landon as Charles Ingalls as my father. So when he died, I mourned. I remember the day I found out. I was upstairs in my brothers room playing a Nintendo video game.

KURT COBAIN
Ask me where I was when I learned Kurt Cobain's body was found and I can tell you. Not really a fan. But I remember.
