Back in January on our Retroblog, we reported that Paul Reubens was resurrecting his Pee-Wee Herman character during a string of live performances in the Los Angeles area. So successful were the shows apparently that Reuben’s bow-tie wearing boy-man will soon be taking to the Broadway stage. Starting on October 26, 2010, Reubens will begin a six-week run of The Pee-Wee Herman Show at the Stephen Sondheim Theater.
Here is a clip from one of the Los Angeles performances of The Pee Wee Herman Show at Club Nokia:
Pee-Wee Herman, of course, had a very popular children’s show in the 80s, Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, not to mention a pair of successful films, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure (1985) and Big Top Pee-Wee (1988).
While Pee-Wee’s brand of humor might not be everyone’s cup of tea, those that admire and enjoy Reuben’s work are sure to come out in droves to see his return to the stage in the Big Apple. Are you one of them? Would you like to see the show come to your town? Share your thoughts on the renewed popularity for all things Pee-Wee with us at Retroland.
