They were in Pennsylvania, too, and quite a few as I remember. Its funny how huge chains of restaurants can dry up and disappear overnight. Remember Rib It? Steak and Brew? Victoria Station? Maybe not in your area, but now long gone.

I think they were the same as Ponderosa. Smile

Absolutely! I ate there several times when I was a kid. It was the Pepsi to Ponderosa's Coke in our town. I wonder if the Cartwrights (Hoss and Little Joe) inspired those names. Wink

We had a Bonanza/Ponderosa for a while. I don't remember if it started out as Bonanza for a few years and switched to Ponderosa, or vice versa. They closed up about 20 years ago, and there's an East Side Mario's there now.

Re: does anyone remember bonanza restaurants

We still have a number of Bonanza restaurants here in Central PA. They're usually all the same - outdated, and in need of a good scrubdown. They're a big hit with the older crowd.

We only had one Ponderosa, and it was about a 45 minute drive from here, in front of a mall we used to frequent. It was always pretty icky, but my husband loved to eat there. The last time we were there, he got violently ill in the parking lot (in front of several vans full of people, who turned around and left when they saw him).

There was a Ponderosa when I lived in Ohio, but I once walked in, and walked right back out.
