Troll dolls
Posted: Fri Dec 15, 2006 2:58 am Central Time
My first trolls (1962) had stiff straight hair, different from all others ever made & sold naked. Before Dam's dolls here in the U.S. so his can't be the original cause I owned mine years before his hit the markets. Wish I could find any information or anyone who remembers those particular ones. |

You are the first & only person that has any knowledge of them. I have searched all sites for may years but none even mention that particular style. |

my brother gave me this one several years ago. when i was a junior in high school, i played the part of a bridge troll in a children's theatre show. i ended up dressing exactly like mine, including dying my hair orange. then i used the troll doll as one of my props. _________________ can't talk now, the ninjas are watching me think.

Thanks for posting a photo of your troll. It's cute but not the type I had and am still looking for. I guess there was only one year production of the style I collected. The hair was not fuzzy material, it was of very thick fishing line or fiber-optic lines dyed.

I think the reason why it's not exactly the same was because Troll dolls had a minor comeback in the early 1990's. And, I imagine that the fuzzy hair was one of the "improvements" over the original design of the 1960's. _________________ "Every heartbeat is a soundtrack to your life" ~ Kylie Minogue |

The ones in the 70's had the fuzzy hair too. My brother got one for his birthday one year. I think I have a picture somewhere where you can see it in the background. |

Christmas 1992 among my friends was officially dubbed "A Very Troll Christmas"
It was the year Troll dolls had there reincarnation and for some odd reason it was THEE gift to give that year! I got my friend Jen a giant teddy-bear-sized troll doll that looked like "baby" troll. Then Jon got Jen a regular sized Troll doll and I made fun of him and he defended his gift ADAMANTLY until he opened HIS gift from Jen...which was a Troll doll! He was SO mad! I remember laughing hysterically and saying "You got JEN a troll doll and said it was a great gift!!!" and he complained that it was a great gift for a GIRL. So Jen ended up with two troll dolls (but liked them) and Jon ended up with one and our friend Katie also got a troll doll that year from our friend Sue! Ironically NO ONE had expressed an interest in troll dolls that year! Plus we were all in high school at the time...way too old for troll dolls! I guess since it was the "IN" thing at the time we just decided to buy them! I was lucky, I totally escaped getting one that year! I did have two troll dolls though. One was dressed as a British guard that someone got me in England (And I was big into British pop at the time, so they called it my :"Peter Gabriel" Troll) And then I had a regular troll with Yellow hair that my best friends sister gave me when she was 4 years old. She wrapped it up and everything so I had to take it! |

My older sister used to have the UGH-LY troll w/ big eyes, a scowl and kinda dressed like a native. It used to sit on our bookshelf headboard and stare. YUCK!
I now have a 60s/70s looking Troll that someone donated to my school, and my kids told me I should take it, since I like the 70's so much! _________________ Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional. |

Treasure Trolls...
I really loved them. My cousin had a HUGE collection, I was jealous.
I got my tonsils out in 1991, and for a "bravery" gift, my mother bought me a Cuddle Treasure Troll. They're like 12 or 14" tall and they have the hard plastic face but their bodies are plush.
I remember mine had purple hair and I think it had a purple diamond belly button. |

I remember having two of those trolls when I was little, one with orange hair and one with pink Same type as in the photo that Sith Penguin posted.
I found one of them while cleaning out our attic not too long ago. _________________

I once dated a gal who was into troll dolls when she was young, and whose uncle was an Elvis impersonator. I couldn't resist asking her if there were any trolls who resembled the King of Rock and Roll . . . (so did she) |

I spent an ungodly amount of money on my troll collection at the age of 12. |
