Re: Mr.Steak Restraunt

Our family used to eat there quite a bit back in the '70s. I remember our next door neighbours used to have a big fiberglass sign of the Mr. Steak mascot on the wall of their backyard toolshed.

Well, they had them in Canada (where I lived back then), so I would assume they were nationwide.

"Jamco Ltd, which owned Mr Steak, Inc, the company that operated its own Mr Steak Restaurants as well as franchising them, declared bankruptcy in 1987. At the time of the bankruptcy there were about 150 restaurants in the US and Canada, 25 operated by the company and the remainder operated by franchisees."

Re: Mr.Steak Restraunt

Well, by us we had Rustler's Steakhouse, where you saw the food being cooked on the grill and the flames often got reallyt high. I loved the food and the place was kinda dark and dimly lit. The drinks were free for refills, and afterwards we would get pudding for dessert. I always got chocolate and my sister got vanilla. It was sad to see that place get turned into Sizzler's but the food is good there as well.

Re: Mr.Steak Restraunt

Mr Steak was a franchise (although the company also opperated some restaurants as what they called "company stores"). In the late 60's early 70's I worked at Mr Steak #7 which was located on Harbor Blvd just south of Disneyland by the Anaheim Convention Center. If I recall most of the meat was "Mr Steak" product, but owners could get produce and other products locally. What I remember best (beside the waitresses) was the Breakfast Specials (#1 and #2). #1 was 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon or sausage, and two pieces of toast. #2 was the same except 2 pancakes instead of toast. The price? $.49

The food was really pretty good and relatively inexpensive as I recall.

Re: Mr.Steak Restraunt

I remember they had "Mr. Steak summertime steak and clambake".  I don't think we ever got to it, though.

I know we ate there on other occasions, though.
