John Larroquette Fanatics REPORT IN!

Are you a John Larroquette fan? So am I! Let's discuss classic Larroquette such as Night Court and Stripes or more contemperary fare like McBride and his latest guest apperence on Chuck. Speaking of Boston Legal may make me particularly cranky, though (HE CAN DO BETTER!).

Re: John Larroquette Fanatics REPORT IN!

I loved him as Dan Fielding in Night Court, he was so sleazy!!!

I really loved his short lived John Larroquette Show, where he played a recovering alcoholic who managed a bus station in St. Louis. A really funny show that was canned way too fast. The episode with Bobcat Goldthwaite as a manager trainee was hysterical. They oughta put this series out on DVD, I think it had at least one full season.

I agree that The John Larroquette Show needs a release on DVD. Night Court season 2 is getting an official release in February 2009 (It's about time!), so maybe TJLS will soon follow. Dave's World is also out there if you're interested. I don't remember much about TJLS because I was more of a Frasier fan back in those days, although I did catch some reruns when it was on after Wings on USA Network in the early half of the 2000s. I was reading the summaries of the first season, which sound very awesome and thought-provoking, but I looked at what happened later on and maybe NBC should have just canceled instead of bothering with it past the first season because the show wasn't supposed to become a lighthearted comedy about John Hemingway getting engaged twice and fathering some random woman's child, it was supposed to be about him struggling with his substance abuse and his passion for writing, which seems much more interesting than standard sitcom romance issues (When will people start realizing that shipping isn't the end all and be all of every TV series?).

I don't consider myself a Laroquette fanatic, but I will chime in. I have always liked the man's work.

I haven't seen much Boston Legal, but I loved him on Nigh Court and all the various film roles I've seen him on over the years.

The John Laroquette Show was pretty good, too, at least what episodes I saw of it.

I never watched it to the point where I saw that they killed it by making it just another sitcom romance though.

Dan was always my favorite character on Night Court.  I thought the episode where his hillbilly parents came to visit was hilarious (Reinhold!?!)   He was also great in an episode of House, playing a guy that had been in a vegetative state, who eventually took House and Wilson on a road trip to Atlantic City.   The episode was both funny and dramatic (like most House eps) but I thought Larroquette was especially good in the role.

John is truly a classy, stand up guy. He is one of the few celebrities to beat alcoholism, and after winning the emmy four years in a row, he took his name out of the running the next year. I though Dan Fielding was a hilarious character. I also have The 10th Kingdom on DVD. I also liked Blind Date and Madhouse. Low brow comedies, but hilarious. I wish he would do more McBride films, but I guess he is done with those.

Madhouse was a great movie, and I enjoyed his work quite a bit on Night Court.
