Childhood Favorite Songs

Throughout your childhood and teens, chances are there were songs you've heard on the radio that you liked so much that you HAD to go out and buy the 45. Of coarse, there were many songs I liked when I was growing up where I had to go out and buy the record. Many of those songs for some reason I associated with a close friend at school, girls I've liked or places I've been. What were favorite, "must-have" songs when you were growing up (not counting favorite bands)??? Here are mine, starting with my very first 45 when I was 5 years old and ending with 11th grade:

Little Boxes, A Hard Rains' Gonna Fall, We Shall Overcome--as sung by Pete Seeger

President on the Dollar, Walking Down To Washington, Yellow Rose of Texas--as sung by Mitch Miller

Yellow Bird--performer unknown

I have to admit that in my household, my parents' tastes made Lawrence Welk resemble Jimmy Hendrix or Janice Joplin!

--------------------------------

interesting to note that LAWRENCE WELK had a number 2 charting album called YELLOW BIRD in 1961...he also put out a single of the song, as did THE MILLS BROTHERS.
