Posted: Thu Jul 17, 2008 4:52 pm Central Time I don't think they do it very much any more! I had my tonsils out when I was little (before age 10) I know my one sister had a bad time with hers and after the surgery that she had when she was in her 20's! I had to spend more time off cause the day I was suppose to go to school I couldn't get up(Mom was mad till she got into my room, I was hemmoraging and had to go back to the hospital! _________________ It's not what's in the mirror...but what's left inside Stevie Nicks

Posted: Thu Jul 17, 2008 7:01 pm Central Time I did. and that was before they did it with lasers like now. Did you know they do it with lasers now? The incision got infected and i got sick. Posted: Fri Jul 18, 2008 6:23 pm Central Time It's a vague memory but I had mine taken out when I was about 6 or 7, give or take a year or two. We're talking the early 1960s here, definitely before '65, and I guess it was a routine practice in those days. I seem to recall my older brother (by about 3 years) probably had to have his taken out, and the doctor decided to go ahead and take mine at the same time. Now the part some people have a hard time believing, but it is the absolute truth: the doctor came to our home and performed the operations there, complete with ether as an anesthetic. We had our tonsils taken out right in the "spare room" of our house. About all I remember otherwise is being limited to eating Jell-O and ice cream after the operation. I don't think there were any ill effects afterwards, although I was told that my speech was a little scrambled by the ether: I asked at one point if I could go into the "niketch" (kitchen). Werd how certain details stay with you after some 45 years, although it's partly because the incident became part of our family's lore, the tales parents love to tell again and again over the years. _________________ "Life moves pretty fast. Posted: Sun Jul 27, 2008 7:00 pm Central Time I had my tonsils out in grade 2. It was pretty uneventful. My mom (who would have been about 31 at the time) had hers out a few months later, and did not tolerate it well. I remember my aunt laughing at her and saying "grownups are wimps". I don't think my aunt has had her tonsils out, though

The doctor decided to check us out in a week, before deciding to do the tonsilectomies.
