Twinkies

Just saying that word makes me smile. I used to eat them by the box and loved it. But you gotta have milk to wash it all down. Can you believe that they brought back the origianal banana cream filling from the early 1930's. They stopped it and switched it to regular cream during the banana shortage during the War. I've seen the documentry on FoodTv  "Top Ten Most Fun Food Factories" which documented the Twinkies and shown a tour of the factory and demonstrated how their machines make the twinkies. Amazing that Chicago is the Twinkie Capital. Last year at the carnival, I've tried the fried Twinkies, and it tasted soooooo good. I've also tried the Chocolate Twinkies when I saw them being sold in the Hostess Emporium. Nice place to get Twinkies for a low price.

Re: Twinkies

I loved the banana creme filled Twinkies. I wish they'd continue to make them......but then again if they did, I'd probably weigh as much as a hippo by the time I turn 40. Smile

Re: Twinkies

Wait, if the banana Twinkies are back, will it still be possible to get regular Twinkies?

Re: Twinkies

I never had the strawberry or banana filled ones, and I really didn't like Choco-Diles that much, But I liked the ads. Nope, just plain ole Twinkies for me!

Re: Twinkies

I once told a Internet buddy that I've never eat Twinkies, since they don't carry it in my area, and he sent me a box from Texas. It wasn't bad.

Re: Twinkies

Several years ago, Hostess came out with a line of reduced fat versions of Twinkies and Cup Cakes. Among the cup cakes was a spice cake with apple filling, so that may have been when they also had a raspberry-filled Twinkie. I do remember a creme-filled reduced fat version that wasn't as good as the real thing. (No surprise that the reduced fat line didn't remain on the market very long.)

Nowadays, with the current fad for 100-calorie snacks, Hostess has miniature Twinkies, which are round and come 3 to a package.

Nothing against the Dolly Madison Zingers, but they're really no comparison to the heavenly taste of a Twinkie.

How recently is "now?"  Because, if I remember correctly, I think the last time I had a Twinkie was about six or seven years ago.  I remember that day specifically, not because of the Twinkie, but because it was the day I told my high school music teacher that I'd gotten into Bishop's University for music, and she didn't seem that happy for me at the time, but then later, I found out that she'd told a whole bunch of other people (including the other music teacher), so she must have been proud of me after all.  Anyway, I don't remember the Twinkie being bad back then, it tasted pretty decent.  Has Hostess changed the recipe for Twinkies since then?
