Re: Retroland Wish List / Bug List

Just a thought, but when a thread gets moved, would it be possible to indicate on the original board which board it was moved to (and possibly why) so we won't have to guess where they went?
Were the "last movie you sw" and "last television show you watched" moved because they aren't "retro" or because they are lists with minimal discussion? Should all such list posts be on the newly expanded Wordplay board? Maybe the "last book you read" should be too. _________________ "Life moves pretty fast. I think something sleek with some photos of pop culture background would be cool.... Something sorta like they do here www.bttf.com, but with a little bit of everything pictured, or as much as will fit around the sides.... I dunno, I wish I could express what I see in my head a bit better, sorry. _________________ www.hauntingheather.com

We already do that -- you'll see a Moved:Name of Thread topic in the original forum, and when you click it, it takes you to the forum where it lives now.

I'd have to re-examine those threads to know for sure, but yeah, generally any thread that is mostly a list, or doesn't have much in the way of actual discussion, would belong in Wordplay. The retro-or-not factor plays into it as well.

Some good suggestions so far. I agree with the cross posting from the main boards to the "retropedia" sections....that will help generate traffic on those sections and spur on retro-based conversation.
I think that there are too many boards as is....just my opinion. As someone else stated, thge old YL site got along fine with only five or six boards. Toys and video games could simply be made into one board. If it ends up that there is a member who posts 1000 topics in one day over the same subject and not getting a response...then remove the the posts. This should be a site where every member can contribute. If you think up a good topic, then have to decide which board it should go on, only for it to not get a response because nobody can find it, then what good is it? On the flip side, members should try to post topics that everybody in general can participate in. Wrestling is fun to watch and can generate topics, but to post every micro-moment of every broadcast of "RAW" about 8 times a day will not bring people to post. A retro site should be a retro site.
As for people being banned, if they do something blatant that is stated as a "no-no" in the guidelines, then discipline them in private....no need for drama. Members should behave and not play the part of bully...especially at an adult age, but other members should tone down on the oversensitivity as well.....if someone posts something you don't like....move on to another topic...or better yet....go outside!
I spoke my part here. _________________

Encouragingly, you're pretty much quoting the Community Guidelines! See especially the sections on not feeding the trolls and consequences. These are the new laws of the land -- and it's great to see folks intuitively understand that these "rules" are really just common sense for getting along in a group.
Cheers,

Oops. I hadn't noticed that -- I though it opened up the thread on the original board. Nice feature, in that case. _________________ "Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." -- Ferris Bueller

Could something be done about the obscenity filter?
C-R-A-P is filtered while dick isn't, and somehow D-Y-K-E got censored. _________________ Oh Gloria, with hair like granite. |

What happens if you want to make a post about Dick Van D-y-k-e?

See a recent post on the Television board: it comes out as Dick Van #$%$.
On another site, the filter was set at one time to change his first name to Thingy, just like Thingy Cavett or Tricky Thingy Nixon. _________________ "Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." -- Ferris Bueller

How about a "recently added" list? Back on YL, they had one for their database, we need one for the Retropedia. _________________ Oh Gloria, with hair like granite. |

That's in the works for the next version, actually -- good call. Meanwhile, as new Retropedia articles are added, I'm creating corresponding threads in the appropriate forum here.
Keep the suggestions coming!

1. Why do all the categories link to the 80s lists?
2. What happened to the front page? It redirects to the blog. _________________ Oh Gloria, with hair like granite. |

We have it defaulted to that because most of our registered users were children in the eighties, so that's the predominant "retro zone," if you will. You can still select any decade you want with the dropdown list on the right.
Retromaniac wrote: 2. What happened to the front page? It redirects to the blog. view
This is a temporary experiment while we transition to a new design. All the fuctionality of the site is still available through the menu items. Also, having a blog as a front page, and adding new content regularly (we shoot for every day or so) makes the site very friendly to the search engines, which helps our traffic, which helps in a couple of ways:
1) More people discover the site, join, and contribute their memories and conversation to the community
2) The ads get more clicks, which brings more revenue to the site, which keeps it alive.
Best,
