What will become of the A's?
Posted: Thu Oct 08, 2009 2:58 pm Central Time
The A's have been looking for a new stadium for maybe five years now. They are in desperate need of one after the Coliseum was turned into a football stadium with the addition of Mt. Davis.
Oakland- there have been proposals for a smaller stadium near the Coliseum, to be used for baseball only. If they can manage it, perhaps they can design it so the sunset over the Oakland hills would be revived.
San Jose- conflicted due to the Giants minor league team, but it'd be a better market (look at the Sharks).
Fremont- this plan was recently nixed, and wouldn't have made sense. Fremont Athletics doesn't have a good ring to it.
Sacramento- currently the home of their AAA affiliate. Would at least keep them in Northern California.
Portland or Montreal- it'd be sad if they resorted to that. If it ever happened, I'd become a Giants fan, especially since they wouldn't broadcast any games here. _________________ Oh Gloria, with hair like granite. |

I hate to see teams relocate as well, but if the A's must then perhaps San Juan, San Antonio, or even south of the border in Mexico City would be a good choice. It seems that the Gulf of Mexico area...Louisianna, Alabama, Florida panhandle has a great catchment area with no teams close....perhaps an untapped market? _________________

How about Pittsburgh? After 17 consecutive losing seasons the Pirates franchise can hardly be considered major league, and they have a new ballpark. |

Since the A's moved from Kansas City to Oakland, perhaps they could move back to KC and Oakland can have the hapless Royals. |
