in the mid 60s, SOUPY SALES had a HOT 100 hit single about a "dance craze" called THE MOUSE.  check out SOUPY in action.

Re: Soupy Sales has died

From an article in USA Today:

Sales, who was typically clad in a black sweater and oversized bow-tie, was once suspended for a week after telling his legion of tiny listeners to empty their mothers' purse and mail him all the pieces of green paper bearing pictures of the presidents.

Now that was comic genius.

That Cream Pie will never be the same again.

Kids show host, game show panelist ("What's My Line", "The $10,000 Pyramid"), voice of Donkey Kong on "Saturday Supercade", and funny comedian.

I'm barely old enough to remember his original show with Fang and the gang.  I have more memories from the talk shows and what-not.  A real TV treasure.

Oh My God!

Death took no holidays this fall!

I knew that poor Soupy was ill..but I didn't know that he was that sick!

He was my dearest and best friend! and one of my favorite performers!

Thank God!

He left us all alot of tv and film legacies that will live on!

(Crying)

Goodbye Soupy And God Bless You Dear Sir!

You must be taking the loss especially hard, then!  Share some of your personal memories of Soupy, if / when you're up to it... and everyone, don't forget to post memories on his Retropedia page..!

We've just done a blog post honoring Soupy, too, including his re-telling of the "send green paper" incident.  Feel free to share it with your friends.

Best,

Re: Soupy Sales has died

Dear Mat Selnick,

Yes!

I feel Soupy's lost very much..I knew him as far back as the late 1980's.

I did a phone interview with him and we became friends later on.

But..he was more than my friend..he became like a uncle to me..and his

lost is very painful to me.

I know that his lost is equally painful to his wife Trudy,to his two sons Tony &

Hunt,to his grandaughter and to his brother Mr.Jack Supman.

(Milt Supman was Soupy's real name..not Milt Hines)

If I cry..I'm simply showing how I feel..because I do have a heart...and I do cry for people

that I really care about.

It may offened some people..but..I don't feel that there is anything wrong with someone

showing that they can and do cry..for those that they love and care about!

Again,

Thanks for Your Reply and you kind thoughts!

I doubt very much anyone would begrudge a display of emotion.

Thanks for sharing your story!

Re: Soupy Sales has died

one TV credit people tend to overlook was SOUPY SALES's stint as a regular on the syndicated series SHA NA NA (for a season or so).  he proved a natural fit for the show.

Re: Soupy Sales has died

I once saw Soupy Sales live at a comedy club in my hometown.  I even got to go backstage to meet him.  May you R.I.P. Mr. Soupy Sales.  Thank you for your wonderful performances. -_-;;
