Let's seriously extrapolate from that, then... well, kinda seriously, at least.
Take the idea of Nintendo / Atari / Pong never existing and stretch it forward. Would personal computers have ever taken off? Would Gates and Wozniak have been inspired to create computers for the home if there were not already highly specialized computers hooked up to so many television sets?
Would a world where Atari never happened also be a world with no personal computer?
Think about it... keep going...

Supposing that gaming through computer technology had never come to pass I think that personal computers would still have made their way to the market though with stripped down capabilities. Monochrome monitors would likely have been popular for a longer period of time. Graphics would probably have been slower to develop as business and word processing software are generally not graphics intensive. Without the entertainment aspect of computers, audio hard and software would have been another slow starter. Looking at the bigger picture, motion picture technology would have been effected as well. The Hollywood wizardry we are seeing today would probably never have reached the heights it has without (comparatively) inexpensive computing capability and imaginative programers.
Well, I've extrapolated....any other takers? |

Video games would've died entirely in 1983, considering that the NES saved their !@# _________________ Oh Gloria, with hair like granite. |

well, yes and no. the industry did suffer a blow from the crash, but i think the general consensus among gamers from back then is that it didn't really affect them, with the exception of being a slim year for good games. i'm sure if nintendo didn't step up, another company would have. _________________ can't talk now, the ninjas are watching me think.
