Is there a new sheriff in the town of Retroland?
Posted: Tue Nov 03, 2009 6:55 pm Central Time
Granted, I've been gone a while, but this place doesn't seem at all the same.
What happened to the politics forum?
Where has the life, the soul, the comments, the passion, the personality of Retroland gone?
Come back, Shane. Come back!

There have been a lot of changes in the last month or so, all as a result of Boss Radio and Jupiter having the resources and time to commit more fully to the site's growth and success. Everything we're doing is dedicated to that goal.
Like any transitional time, the changes have been rough for some people and exhilarating for others. You came back at a good time -- I just posted a kind of State of the Union that talks about some of this stuff. You should also take a gander at the Community Guidelines, as they've been updated and you'll want to make sure you understand them.
If you have any questions, concerns or ideas about Retroland.com you'd like to share, please do so directly -- PM me, or write suggestions@retroland.com. However, the public forums are not the appropriate venue for that -- please contact me directly.
Meanwhile, I hope you'll jump back into the forums -- it's been almost a year since your last post!
Best,

Retroland.com is the perfect place to share and celebrate the pop culture that shaped us into the people we are today. That, in a nutshell, is the mission of this website. We've got Retro Central in the Retrotalk section to talk about non-retro stuff when we want.
For folks who aren't as interested in Retro topics, there are other destinations on the web. The beautiful thing about the Internet is there's never a need for an us / them approach (whether or not it's produced by Alan Parsons) because the right place for whatever you want to do is just a click away.
Retroland.com is your retro-centric resource and gathering place for when you want to do that.
Best,

So basically what you're saying is that if we don't like it here we can go elsewhere? |

Hah! Nothing so oppositional or confrontational! Take another look at what I wrote:

Put it another way: when you want to shop for books music, and other stuff, you go to Amazon.com. When you want to search for information, you go to Google. You can do other things at those sites, but Amazon.com is primarily a retailer and Google is primarily a search engine.
As an example: I listen to a lot of free fiction distributed as MP3 audiobooks. When I want something to listen to, I don't go to Amazon.com or Google.com or Retroland.com -- I go to podiobooks.com. If I want to write a blog post, I don't go to Twitter because I'd be limited to 140 characters -- it's not the right tool. If I want to read current news from reputable journalists, I go to the New York Times. If I want goofy, funny news I know isn't real, I'll go to the Onion.
Similarly, Retroland.com is primarily a resource for information about retro culture and a gathering place to discuss and celebrate retro culture. Yes, you can do other things here, but those two things are what Retroland.com is for. If you're on the web and you want to mostly do something other than research or talk about retro culture, there are lots of choices that make more sense.
When you do want a retro fix, we're here!
