Re: Wait, that was a cover?

It seems the early 1980s experienced an "oldies revival" with artists doing covers of songs from mainly the 1960s. Examples:

I Love Rock N' Roll - Joan Jett

Crimson And Clover - Joan Jett

(Oh) Pretty Woman - Van Halen

Dancing In The Street - Van Halen

Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go - Soft Cell

Angel Of The Morning - Juice Newton

Why Do Fools Fall In Love - Diana Ross

Everyday People - Joan Jett

(There's) Always Something There To Remind Me - Naked Eyes

"Hot Rod Lincoln" by Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen is a cover of a song done about ten years earlier by both Johnny Bond and Charlie Ryan

"Unchained Melody", that half you guys probably think came from the movie "Ghost" was originally the theme of a movie in 1955 called "Unchained".  (Duh!)  It was a hit record that year for several people including Nelson Riddle, Roy Hamilton and Al Hibbler. The Righteous Brothers covered it about 10 years later. After that  version was used in "Ghost",  the Righteous Brothers  re-recorded a new version which also hiot the Top 20 -  actually a cover of a cover!

Remember Donny Osmond's "Sweet and Innocent" from back in the early '70s? - It was a cover of the Roy Orbison song from  the late '50s.

Quiet Riot's "Cum On Feel The Noize" came 10 years after the original by Slade.

Donny Osmond's "Go Away Little Girl" was also a cover.

Indeed. Steve Lawrence had a big hit with it in the early '60s.

Remember Donny Osmond's "Sweet and Innocent" from back in the early '70s? - It was a cover of the Roy Orbison song from  the late '50s.

i never knew SWEET & INNOCENT was a ROY O tune, but i just listened to ROY's version online and it's a much slower tempo, making it almost seem like a completey different song.

i didn't realize it at the time, but practically ALL of DONNY's big hits were remakes (he's not known as a songwriter).   LONELY BOY, PUPPY LOVE (those two both former PAUL ANKA classics), A MILLION TO ONE, WHY, GO AWAY LITTLE GIRL, and DONNY's later "adult" hit C'MON MARRIANNE.  even most of DONNY & MARIE's smashes were covers, including DEEP PURPLE, MORNING SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN, I'M LEAVING IT ALL UP TO YOU, etc...surprisingly, most of ther OSMOND BROTHER hits were NOT covers; a  few were even penned by the boys themselves.
