Lawn Darts
Posted: Sat Sep 15, 2007 8:28 pm Central Time
Anyone else used to throw them at other people? LOL. Me and my cousin used to stand next to the rings as we tossed the darts. Instead of hitting eachother, I hit myself by throwing them str8 up and watching them fall back down. Back in the day we knew how to have fun. |

I illegally own a set of these darts now. My friend once got one of these in the leg. |

My grandma and aunt are fairly "safety-obsessed" people... but some of my fondest childhood summer memories involve playing lawn darts with them when I was about 6 or 7 years old. They were the real darts, with pointed ends. Remembering that makes me think of the smell of the heavy-duty incense that my grandma used to ward off mosquitos. |

I have heard that they are once again making them but the company to comply with the laws that caused them to be illegal still exist. So the company has to sell the dart end and the fan/blade end separately. |

I've seen "safer" lawn darts on the market (and played with them too). They're made with weighted ends rather than points, but they really don't seem all that much safer, because can you imagine being hit in the head with the weighted end of a lawn dart as it's hurtling down towards the ground? |

It's funny that they specifically labelled the Jarts as being "for adults," because for one thing, a lot of people here have been sharing memories of playing with Jarts as children, and for another thing, when adults get together for a barbecue or whatever, there's usually alcohol involved. That's probably what led to all those Jart-induced injuries that got them taken off the market in the first place. |

I saw a box of "Jarts" at Kmart the other day. They're not the same but for nostalgia's sake, they're JARTS.

Somehow, through an awful brain fart
Evolved an invention called "Jarts."
But before very long,
Things went terribly wrong,
When they pierced people clear through the heart. |

No! You followed the instructions. The ones who were injured likely engaged in other gene pool cleansing activities such as driving with a hot cup of coffee between their legs. Sadly stupidity is not against the law. |
