Fun Dip

Fun Dip

Packets of powdered sugar-dust licked from a vanilla-flavored candy stick. For a kid, does it get any better than that? The appropriately-named Fun Dip packed a punch like no other, pure refined sucrose with a bit of tartness that would send your blood sugar levels racing to heights never before achieved. And when the powder was gone, you could begin gnawing on the enclosed edible utensil. Continue reading...

Airheads Candy

Airheads

Some might call Airheads the silly putty of the candy world. These tangy and tasty taffy treats can be twisted, tormented and pulled into lengths that would make Stretch Armstrong jealous. Sold in a variety of flavors, some a bit more ambiguous than others, they remain a favored candy treat for those who have the utmost faith in the strength of their fillings. Continue reading...

Chunky candy bar

Chunky

One of the first things that come to mind when reminiscing about Chunky candy bars is the old saying, “if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.” Sure, it is still a wonderful and tasty candy bar with a loyal following. Oh but in its glory days, Chunky was truly something special; a classic. Continue reading...

Sweethearts

Sweethearts

Every time Valentine's Day rolls around, the adults of the world exchange flowers and elaborate boxes of chocolate with their loved ones. BB Bats candy

BB Bats

Some candies are so teeth-adhesive that one wonders if a dentist invented them. And while the little rectangular suckers known as BB Bats might not have been invented by one of these white-coat-wearing sadists, they have probably made as many dentists smile as the kids that chomp into them. Continue reading...

Candy Cigarettes

Candy Cigarettes

Years before the public fully understood the dangers associated with smoking tobacco, it was glamorized to no end in movies and on television. And youngsters weren’t immune to the allure of their favorite hero suavely dangling a cigarette from his or her mouth. Eager to imitate the image, but a little too young for the real thing, we settled for candy cigarettes. Now a tyke could hang out on the street corner, a miniature James Dean or Bette Davis, showing that they too had what it took to look tough (fake pack rolled neatly in the sleeve of their shirt.) Eventually, of course, nicotine addiction became frowned upon and so did confectionery replicas of cigarettes, who finally lost their…cool. Continue reading...

Oh Henry!

Oh Henry!

As the official story goes, a boy by the name of Henry used to frequently visit the Williamson Candy Store in Chicago. He would flirt with the girls that worked there who would respond with “Oh, Henry!” Later when Mr. Williamson needed a name for a new candy bar, he remembered the remarks and the rest was history. Or was it? Continue reading...

Runts Candy

Runts

Those wacky inventors over at the Willy Wonka factory have introduced plenty of innovative confections over the years, from the Everlasting Gobstopper to the Wonka Bar. But one of their most popular creations over the past few decades are Runts. If the name doesn't ring a bell, you likely remember the small, realistically-shaped, fruit flavored candies that are not only sold in the candy aisle, but also countless gumball-type vending machines around the world. Continue reading...
