You can’t really blame someone employed as an assembly line worker from letting their mind wander on occasion - thinking that there must be a better way to make a buck. Such was the case with a man named Mike Bowling. He couldn’t help but notice that Cabbage Patch Kids were about the hottest collectable ever to hit the market and decided that if people liked collecting dolls, maybe they would have an even bigger soft spot in their heart for man’s best friend. His curiosity led to a line of plush canine critters called Pound Puppies - and his little Rovers would rescue him from the auto assembly line forever.

Josie wasn’t always a pussycat. In the late 60’s, this future feline rocker was simply Josie, star of her own Archie comic book about the adventures of Josie and her best friend, Melody. But with the musical success of The Archies on the rise, it was determined by the creators that it might not be such a bad thing if Josie and Melody started up their own group. And so was born, Josie and the Pussycats.

Forget the British Invasion of the 60s; let’s talk about the lesser-known Flemish Invasion of the early 80s. For that is when America was introduced to a herd of little blue humanoids known as Schtroumphs in their native land. Not ringing a bell yet? Perhaps you know them by their American translation – Smurfs. Created back in 1957 by cartoonist Peyo Culliford, they first made their presence known in the form of toys, but once TV executive Fred Silverman wisely bought the rights to use their likeness on NBC, The Smurfs quickly won over the hearts of tykes from coast to coast and Smurfmania was on the rise.

If there is one quality that all superheroes share, it is their affinity for the alter ego. It is the only thing that allows them a semblance of a normal life, free to hang up the cape for a bit and mingle among the less extraordinary, do some grocery shopping, even try to engage in a bit of romance. And while their occupational choices have ranged from nurse to newspaper reporter, perhaps none has ever set the bar lower than a canine custodian named Penrod Pooch. Spending his day with mop in hand, he is hardly noticed by his co-workers as he goes about his chores. Sgt. Flint looks down upon him, nasal-voiced switchboard operator Rosemary is polite, yet understandably unimpressed. But little do they know, they are in the midst of greatness.

From their inception through the next 6 seasons, the cartoon endeared itself to millions of viewers with the prehistoric antics of Fred and Wilma Flintstone and their sidekick neighbors, Barney and Betty Rubble.
