SpaghettiOs

SpaghettiOs

Isn't it funny how food can serve so aptly as a time machine? The mere mention of some items can miraculously transport us right back to the kitchen table of our youth. Such is the power of SpaghettiOs, those tiny rings of pasta packed in a strangely-sweet orange sauce. Of course, it also doesn't hurt that they have left an indelible mark on our memory with that brain-adhesive catch phrase/jingle "Uh, oh, SpaghettiOs!" Perhaps that's why, even in adulthood, when we know we should never eat such things, some of us are still compelled to grab a can of the stuff on occasion and toss it into the shopping cart when nobody is looking. Powerful stuff.

Keebler Elves

With a taste so uncommonly good, it’s hard to believe that their delicious treats came from a hollowed-out tree. Trix Rabbit

Trix Rabbit

Usually when one repeats the same task and yet expects a different result, it is a textbook example of insanity. But there are exceptions. And for all that effort, one thing is indisputable; Trix Rabbit has sold a heck of a lot of cereal over the years.

Violet Crumble

Violet Crumble

When you think of Australian foods that have made an impact in the States, your list might be limited to Foster's Beer, shrimps on the barbie, and perhaps a strange concoction known as Vegamite. Less easy to remember, but equally worthy of mention, is a tasty candy bar that emerged in the 80s called Violet Crumble. A unique confection sold in a shiny purple wrapper, the candy bar might not have given Snickers a run for their money, but they remain fondly remembered by many for being different, and delicious.

Wax Bottles

Wax Bottles

Okay, you really weren’t supposed to eat them, but how were kids to know? After all, they were in the candy aisle. Technically though, the liquid inside was the candy, not the wax container that surrounded it - which didn’t stop kids from ingesting enough wax to turn their digestive tract into a candle, sans the wick. That’s right, we’re talking about the wax bottles of our youth.

Yoo-hoo

Sometimes you’re just not in the mood for a soda. Doesn’t a chilled serving of chocolate milk sound refreshing? Problem is, chocolate milk isn’t something you can just cart around with you unless you have a way to keep it cold, lest it become sour. And there are few beverages as unappetizing as sour milk. Luckily for American consumers, there exists a way to keep a supply of chocolate milk with you for any occasion, without having to worry about its freshness.
